Mario Kart Double Dash!

After far too long of a wait, the follow-up to N64 favorite Mario Kart was finally announced at this year’s E3. Mario Kart Double Dash (due out later this year) brings many new enhancements to gameplay. Apparently you can have two characters in the kart at a time, one as the driver and one as the “gunner”. They are able to switch positions on the fly, because every character has their own stats and abilities, as well as particular weapons they use. Here is a reviewer’s first impressions and here are some fantastic screenshots. This version looks even more cartoony than the N64 version was to the original Super Nintendo game, but if they have kept the gameplay intact I am sure this game will be incredible.

The N64 version of Mario Kart got me and my friends through many nights of classwork evasion at college (and many days of skipped classes). We were so obsessed with it that we actually developed a brand of slang specific to the game. I fear what will happen when this comes out. We may need to quit our jobs.

Skiddly-bop to use that! You can’t ask for a better reason to hold on to the Gamecube (which is good, considering the fact that there doesn’t seem to be any other reason to hold on to it). I will look forward to triumphantly toppling your boosh throne, as you north your entire shell arsenal off a ledge and freejack into my waiting wall of carefully placed fake blocks. “I’m a-Luigi, number 1!”

I am grinning from ear to ear…
