The Heads of State
The Heads of State, some of the best designers around, have a brand spankin’ new site. Luckily, they’re friends of mine and they let me help out with the redesign. They were very frustrated at first from trying to find a new look for their site (as are most when doing a self-promo site since we designers are often our own worst critics). They spent months planning and figuring out what they really wanted to do. Originally, the bulk of their work was concert posters, but in the last year they have been branching out into other arenas like packaging, editorial illustration, and more. They have worked with many cool clients and hot bands, and were ready to have a site that showcased not only their new work but their new direction. And, those of you who follow PRINT Magazine, will notice they are thoroughly represented in this year’s regional design annual for the Mid-Atlantic.
So, working with them to sketch together a sitemap, I took an initial rough stab at the site’s design. While mine was a good shot, the site structure wasn’t fleshed out enough yet and it wasn’t really what they were looking for (you can view my comp here under Unselected Designs, vol 1… the first two screens). So, using what they had learned from my attempt, they knocked their heads together and crafted a truly beautiful site. At this point (with some assistance from a little bird named Inman) I helped them program the site and repurpose the hell out of MovableType to run it. This makes it a snap for The Heads to maintain and lets them get back to what the do best. What you will find is a gorgeous site, brimming with great work and great detail, that also happens to be overflowing with web standards. So strap your eyeballs down for some impressive candy, I give to you, The Heads of State.

Oooh . . . the unselected site is just as yummy. That isn’t to belittle the HoS site that’s up now, though. Congrats to Jason, Shaun, and the Heads of State for the major publicity. For those that don’t know what I’m talking about, check these out.
Very impressive - Great job to you and the one they call the Wolf! Repurposed? Heck, I wouldn’t have known you used Movable Type at all if you hadn’t said something.
I came here from a link from HoS Friends page. I figured anyone associated with them must be great too. It’s interesting to see how JSM’s original design influenced the final result. HoS is one of the best sites I’ve ever seen. Mind you alot of the site is their artwork which is excellent. I agree with Dan the unselected site is a good one as well.

Quite a stunning design, really. I noticed the redesign on CSS Vault. Going through the site, they have some beautiful work and I ordered myself a t-shirt. I’m quite sure I’ll order posters later as well. Great work on their part!
wow. amazing stan. not to mention working for them would be a dream come true, for a designer or illustrator like me. sigh. not fair.
ps. the site looks great too. i really liked the original too, the red took away too much from the art work a bit. but i realllllly liked it.
