Speaking at SXSW

It’s official! I will be speaking on a panel at the next South By Southwest in March. The panel discussion is entitled “Does Design Matter” and will be headed up by Jeffrey Zeldman. Besides Zeldman, sitting in on the panel will be Joe Clark, Kelly Goto, Adam Greenfield, and myself. I haven’t really done much public speaking, especially not to an audience of that size, so, this should be interesting as hell. I’ve also never been to Austin. Do I get my cowboy hat at the airport, or wait until I’m at a rodeo? There are many great people who will be in attendance and/or speaking. This year’s conference promises to be very big. If you are into this industry at all, and can afford it, please do come. If for nothing else than to see me ride a mechanical bull. I hope to see you there!

I’m hoping/planning on being there. Missed out last year, and it sounded like everyone who went had a grand ol’ time. Be nice to meet some of these people who I currently only know online.

I had hoped to be able to go this year, but the sluggishness of work in this area of Canada has not helped my cause. Maybe I’ll get to go next year, hopefully things will be on the upswing by then.

Looks like I will be seeing you there, Jason. Between the people on your panel here including yourself, and the people on my panel (How to Inform Design, Veen and Wodtke) I don’t see any reason why someone would not want to attend SXSWi.

Looking forward to meeting you. Don’t worry about the cowboy hat… I’ve lived in Austin a few years now and still don’t own one, and haven’t seen a mechanical bull anywere in town yet. For a serious dose of Texas stereotypes, I think you might have to visit Ft. Worth, from what I’ve heard…

Woo hoo! It’ll be Vegas all over again!

Ha. Anyway, I’m really looking forward to your panel. It should be a very, very good one!

Way to go!
Do me a favor and call me from a phone booth and scream:
The stars at night,
are big and bright…

Ha! Hey Jason, first off congratulations are in order. Second, as I have lived in Austin and have not yet ridden a Mechanical Bull remember that Austin is a small BLUE island in a red sea. You should have a great time and I look forward to seeing you there! I will happily direct you to “the spots” while you are here. - cheers

Jason,

Austin is the live music capital of the world, being a music lover, I’m sure you can find some great shows to attend!

…Deep in the heart of Texas!!!

Congrats yet again Jason! I feel like I’ve been leaving that comment a lot lately on your blog. Seems that you’ve really been on the up and up. I hope the freelance work has been going as well as your publicity status!

Public speaking tip #29817:

No matter what Zeldman says, clothing is most certainly not optional.
