A Musical Baton

I’ve been passed a musical baton by Jon, and Meme Monday rolls along!

Total volume of music files on my computer: 12.58 Gb.

The last CD I bought was:

“Kick Out The Jams” by MC5.

Song playing right now:

”Cut Self Not” by Faraquet

Five songs I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me:

  1. “Birdhouse In Your Soul” by They Might Be Giants
  2. “Every Everything” by Hüsker Dü
  3. “Dare” by Stan Bush (Yes, from the Transformers Movie soundtrack. Keep the laughing to a dull roar, please.)
  4. “Press Gang” by Murder City Devils
  5. “Kiss Me Deadly” by Generation X

Five people to whom I’m passing the baton:

Commentary (21):

No laughing here about the Transformers soundtrack…more respect for you.

2. Jason G says… may 16, 2005 | 5:39 pm

Is there any reason the Shaun Inman link points to your own domain?

:-D

Anyway, I’ll have to check out some of the artists in your list I don’t recognize but I sure like seeing Murder City Devils and MC5 up there.

3. Jason Santa Maria says… may 16, 2005 | 7:42 pm

Jason G: Ah yes, the reason is that I am a dullard :D

4. Shaun Inman says… may 16, 2005 | 10:10 pm

I’m laughing here. “Dare?” Everyone knows “The Touch” is the superior Autobot rock anthem. “Turbo revvin young punk, I’ll straighten you out yet.”

5. Jason Santa Maria says… may 16, 2005 | 10:15 pm

Man, the “Transformers Theme” by Lion rocked so hard.

6. Greg Storey says… may 16, 2005 | 11:58 pm

I could have sworn you told me the last CD you bought was ‘Wham - Greatest Hits’.

7. Neil Lee says… may 17, 2005 | 12:21 am

Damn, a nod for Hüsker Dü. Great to see them get some props. That band was like my Beatles in high school - Zen Arcade was serious life-changing stuff.

As for the Transformers tune, I can’t say I remember it. But hey — better that than the theme song to The Thundercats, right?

8. Juna says… may 17, 2005 | 8:55 am

I must be listening to the wrong kind of music because I don’t recognize any of those songs. Are they on itunes?

12.58Gb of music. I wonder how much everyone else has?

9. Peter Santa Maria says… may 17, 2005 | 12:28 pm

KICK OUT THE JAMS MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!!

btw: what is a FARAQUET?!

What’s the deal with the musical torch/baton? I traced it back as far as I could (maybe ten steps) from your site and ended up in some weird BBS before I could go no further. Kinda interesting.

Wow, this thing really is spreading, isn’t it? Its like Pay it Forward, only no one really benefits from it in the end… Not to mention I’m seeing some pretty impressive Music Library sizes that put mine to shame.

12. Jared says… may 18, 2005 | 4:39 pm

You mean someone else listens to Faraquet? “Cut Self Not” is a great song.

13. JackRuby says… may 20, 2005 | 7:44 pm

you have much better taste in music than inman.…

14. Charles Plath says… may 24, 2005 | 1:42 pm

Jason, you are my new hero! Long hidden were the days of me actually saying I still listened to that song. On went the headphones whenever I needed to be reminded of that wonderful transformers song and the great sounds of arena rock. Now, I can throw the headphones to the wind. We are coming out of our hidden places and boldly embracing Stan Bush!

Ok, all that aside, its a pretty cool song.

I aint laughing at all Dare is one of my most favorite songs! Not bad for an old timer.…

19. Raby Jairam says… jan 24, 2006 | 8:38 am

I agree with you on Dare and The Touch by Stan Bush. The best part of these songs are “Dare, Dare to believe you can survive, the power is there at your command” and in the Touch - “you never get hit when you’re back’s to the wall, gonna stand up and fight and you’re taking it alllllll”. By the way, I’m a huge Duran Duran fan.
