An Event Apart
After many threats over the years, An Event Apart is now live. What is An Event Apart? Well, it’s essentially a live conference version of A List Apart. Eric Meyer and Jeffrey Zeldman will travel from city to city, holding intense, one-day learning sessions on the how and why of web design and web standards. What’s most interesting is that every event will be different because every event will be shaped by the attendees, live and in-person. You will not be sitting in an audience listening to people speak all day, you will be interacting with them yourself in a workshop-style setting. Eric and Jeffrey will also be joined by a local guest speaker from each town who will make sure they don’t get lost or mugged.
As for the site, you will notice its similarity to the recent redesign of A List Apart, and that’s no mistake, I designed this one too. In contrast with ALA, the color scheme will stay the same, and the content and presentation take a less editorial approach. That’s not all: you love it, you hate, the site is 1024 wide. Similar but different, the AEA site is a natural brand extension of the new A List Apart family.
I am most pleased to announce that the inaugural Event Apart will be held this coming December, right here in Philadelphia at The Franklin Institute. I will be in attendance as guest speaker, bringing the brotherly love. If you are in the area, and can swing it, grab a ticket because seating is limited. It’s going to be a really good time, and we can all get drinks afterwards. If you aren’t anywhere near the area, sit tight. An Event Apart may be coming to your town soon.

Question: Will AEA, events, be spaced out by a few months, or will there be one a month, or… what are you guys planning as far as frequency?

Congrats on the launch but double check that copywriting:
“When you get right down to it, designed the seminar to be the kind of event that they would want to attend. Don’t miss it.”
Stuff like that would keep me from dropping $550 for a seminar that’s pretty vague in description.

Both ALA and AEA look really good. Very good job on the redesign. It’s just a pity I don’t live in the US so that I could attend the events. Anyway keep up the good work.

All: In terms of frequency and other locations/countires, I believe they will see how the first one plays out and how the interest level is. They are definitely open to new cities, if you want to see AEA in your town, drop Eric and Jeffrey a line.

I am so excited about an event of this magnitude coming to Philadelphia. It is long overdue for a city that really has a lot of developers in it, searching and traveling to NYC for events similar to it. I know, I am one such developer. Anyway, let me know if I can help you guys out in any way Jason.
