Overheard at AEA Seattle

As I stand in the doorway watching An Event Apart Seattle attendees file in to the auditorium, I notice two overtly businessy people walk inside. They were dressed in nice suits, carrying leather binders under their arms and towing commuter suitcases. There are multiple meetings and gatherings happening here, so it’s not that odd if someone finds their way into the wrong room. Before they realized it, a wonderful exchange happened:

Business Guy #1: Is this where we’re supposed to be?

Business Guy #2: (looking at the static slide up on screen) No, I don’t think so. This is for people who make websites.

This pleases me to no end.

5. Ian Adams says… jun 22, 2007 | 1:47 pm

hahaha golden! I suppose that’s when you know you’ve got a good tagline, eh?

Man, I really wish I could be there. I’m even just across the lake, but I’ve got to pay for school so I wasn’t able to afford it. :(

Anyway, hope you have a good time here in Seattle!

That’s priceless.

I accidentally walked into one of the other conference meetings here yesterday morning. I knew this since it was apparently For People Who Wear Ties. I love our industry.

Haha, what a superb tagline, I have always loved it. That even pleases me!

I SO did not get this. Then I clicked the link. Now that’s some funny stuff right there.

Nice one - a timely moment nicely shared. ;)

This goes to show that those who doubt an obvious tag line are not aware of how effective this can and needs to be. It’s part of an identity and this should be as self explanatory as possible. You just never know who might walk in on you.

Funny to hear it actually happening. :)

16. Frederick Townes says… jun 23, 2007 | 1:53 pm

Hahaha, NICE!

17. Tammie says… jun 23, 2007 | 2:09 pm

I need a suit… :-)

That sign just worked!

Hahaha… nice…

Although if you could add “and people who macrame.” on there, that’d be good. A couple of us are REALLY getting into macrame.

That is awesome. There are no “good ole boys” in web design. It’s all “young” people who care more about their craft than about building businesses.

23. Terry Tolleson says… jun 25, 2007 | 10:07 am

That gave me a good chuckle. Nice start to a Monday.

24. Blake says… jun 27, 2007 | 7:59 am

Bah hah! That’s precious! Would have loved to have been there for that. I would have chimed in, “Yeah, freaks…”

25. Dan says… jun 27, 2007 | 10:25 pm

Almost as if it were written for a sitcom. Wish I could have heard that.

26. Meredith says… jun 28, 2007 | 10:10 pm

Hahaha. Nice. Though I’m surprised there were two suited gentlemen in one place at the same time in Seattle — they really must not be from here.

27. Ryan says… jun 29, 2007 | 10:32 am

That really is priceless.

Made me smile.

28. Thomas J. Brown says… jun 29, 2007 | 10:38 am

There was an EPA meeting/conference/thing across the hall from us where a number of suited people sat around looking bored.

That’s awesome, though. I really wish I could have heard that! It’s true that the funniest moments are often the unscripted ones.

29. Jesse Gardner says… jun 29, 2007 | 10:05 pm

‘Scuse me, could you tell me where the conference “for people who make money” is?

30. Respiro Media says… jul 1, 2007 | 3:07 pm

Jason, you wanted to tell us that you didn’t wear a nice suit?… ;)

31. Rupak Ganguly says… jul 3, 2007 | 1:21 pm

Funny post. I was at the event as well and it was just great to hear you speak. I enjoyed it. I have a couple of posts covering the event, if you care to read…

32. ceviri says… jul 14, 2007 | 4:42 pm

yeah… but I bet deep down they wanted to stay.

33. Dave says… aug 7, 2007 | 8:46 pm

If they were supposed to attend the EPA meeting they should have stayed at the event apart, they might have learned something.
