How strange. You have to assume that at some point the right side of the wall continued the signage but that would mean someone took the time to remove it precisely down the middle.
Looks like there was a piece of board or sheeting there on the right that has been removed, and the rest of the sign ran onto that? It’s a very tactile photo.
Cook probably got it right there. But whatever the case, it’s a dang pitty. Hand-painted type and advertising seems to be a lost art—replaced long ago by the fool who coined the phrase “desktop publisher.”

I was in Geneva, Switz. at the weekend and saw a new housing development hoarding which there were three or four guys putting advertising all around (must’ve been at least 200 feet of prime commuter space).
The advertising was being done in Spray paint - looked very cool. So it isn’t dead yet, but not quite what it used to be.
