Learning from Atari

Last week my brother pointed me to this wonderful original commercial for Atari’s Pole Position. After gazing in amazement at the giant hand and the kid smiling as his mom blows up, it made me realize how few commercials are quite this eye-catching anymore. I don’t know if it was the custom song, or the belligerent and screaming announcer,… more »

Video Game Bliss

I recently became the owner of a new Nintendo DS, for the sole reason of playing the new Mario Kart, conveniently called Mario Kart DS and sold in a bundle with the system. Longtime readers of the site will recognize my extreme affliction for Mario Kart games after getting hooked in college. The GameCube’s Mario Kart Double Dash was a… more »

Viva la Revolution?

First it was reported that select past generation Nintendo games would be free to Nintendo Revolution owners. Now reports of a flip flop have been coming in, old Nintendo games will not be free. They may in fact cost a little chunk of change or be bundled with new games. Get it straight Nintendo. Why are you concerned with cornering… more »

Attack of the Show

I’m going to lapse into some heavy nerdery for the next few minutes (yes, possibly more than usual). A few years ago I discovered there was a channel dedicated to video games called G4 TV. At first I figured this would be pretty great, 24 hours of video games to flip to when nothing else was on… or sometimes when… more »

Back to Life

Well, here we are again. I know I am a couple days late reverting back to the normal site skin… I had trouble letting go of October. But, fear not, October lives on in our (undead) hearts. I would not take it away from you (or me) entirely. All of the entries that took place in October will don the… more »

Transformers for PS2

Oh man. I have always been a Transformers nut. Admittedly, the original cartoon was really just a half hour long commercial for the toys (which were pretty damn cool), but it still stuck with me. I loved the 1986 Transformers movie… and will even admit to owning the DVD and soundtrack (“You got the touch… YEAH!”). I even got into… more »

Mario Kart Double Dash Impressions

First some background. For the better part of my college career, Mario Kart 64 was the video game of choice for my friends and me. Later, this was played in tandem with other favorites, GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark, though rather than replacing Mario Kart we would just put in some overtime. Colorful characters, great music, fun gameplay, and perhaps… more »

Mario Kart Double Dash!

After far too long of a wait, the follow-up to N64 favorite Mario Kart was finally announced at this year’s E3. Mario Kart Double Dash (due out later this year) brings many new enhancements to gameplay. Apparently you can have two characters in the kart at a time, one as the driver and one as the “gunner”. They are able… more »
